My Journey

My entire life I have been skinny and underweight, as a teenager and young adult I was always very body conscious. I always felt scrawny and it had a big effect on my confidence. Without any knowledge on nutrition or exercise I did not lead a very healthy lifestyle. I used to eat microwave meals and drink a lot of alcohol.

In the summer of 2014 my girlfriend and I went on holiday. At this time, I was working hard and my diet was terrible, the holiday photos showed this. It was the thinnest I had looked for a long time and I decided things needed to change. I always tried to put on weight by eating but knew nothing about nutrition so all I was doing was eating foods high in fat and sugar, becoming increasingly unfit and not gaining the “right” weight. The day after getting back I signed up to the nearest gym. My main target was to completely change my physique so I would be more confident as I hated the way I looked in the holiday photos. I also became slightly worried about my fitness level as I was a smoker in my late 20’s soon approaching 30.

I was given a gym induction and gave up smoking. After roughly 3 months I felt better but couldn’t really see much physical difference so I decided to step it up a gear. I researched proper nutrition and found the help of a personal trainer. The workout regime was brutal and I began to realise the difference between using gym equipment and getting the odd tip from other gym enthusiasts compared to a proper workout with a personal trainer. The difference was unreal.

Another 3 months in the gym (this time with a PT) I went from a guy who was unfit with a poor diet to the fittest and strongest I had ever felt. I am 5’.9” tall and I weighed 56kg after those 3 months I was 68kg. I put on 12kg of muscle and felt great! All my t-shirts were now too tight and I could run faster and longer than before. 3 years has passed, I’m maintaining a bodyweight of 72kg – 75kg and am fitter than I have ever been. I’m now 31 years old but feel like I’m in my prime.

Over the last 2 years I have helped other people feel just as good about themselves. Friends have seen the changes I have made and asked me to help them. I find that coaching people to hit their goals is a wonderful and rewarding thing. It feels just as good to see progress in other people, knowing I’ve helped them achieve as it does making my own. My passion for what was once a hobby became so great, now that passion is my life. It’s never too late to achieve your goals and nothing's impossible.
